SPINDRIFT - CHAPTER 1
Houston, Texas
April 10, 2000

"Lets go and look at boats" Silvie had been saying that for the past month. But Dad kept telling her that we just couldn't even begin to think about buying another boat right then as we had only a couple of months previously made our move from Brazil back to the States. But she kept insisting. She was gentle about it though, never pushy. Then, one day while in our car she said it again adding: "If we don't get out there and look at boats, God will never be able to do a miracle!"
That did it. This time Dad really felt the Lord was trying to tell him something, that he would be standing in the way if he didn't go out, look at boats, and simply let himself be put in a position where God could do a miracle.
Now, we had heard of a place named Kemah. There were boats there, or so people said. And one day while the twins were at work we set out to find it. We drove 35 miles outside of Houston, and, after a couple of wrong turns we found ourselves crossing a big bridge to be greeted on the other side by what seemed like thousands of sailboat masts: Kemah!
We drove into the first marina we saw, and walked along "B" dock. Why that dock? Why "B" dock when they go from "A" dock all the way to "I", a total of 9 in all?
We started to chat with a man there on "B" dock, the only person there. He had a 32' catamaran.
"Would you like to buy a boat?" he asks. Dad says "sure", but that no way could we even consider buying one just now, with the big move up from down south and all. the man, Richard, kept suggesting that we look at a boat "further down the dock". Dad told him several times that now was not the time. Later Dad told us how the same thing happened with Richard as had with Silvie a few days earlier. When Richard kept suggesting (5 times by now!) Dad just felt like he was standing in the way of the Lord, and what He was trying to do! So, after the fifth time he just flowed with it. We went down the dock and looked at a boat, a 36 foot sailboat.
Four days later it was ours!!!
Talk about a miracle! We were able to get it owner financed for 90 days (!!!) and scraped together the down payment. As each additional payment came due, we were able to make them, thanks to new work that fell in our laps just in time. And after making the final payment, as quickly as they started, they stopped!
Thats how we came to buy Spindrift.

Spindrift, a Columbia 36.

If God be your partner, make your plans big!
