ABOUT "SPINDRIFT" Spindrift is a Columbia 36. She was built in 1974 in California and was designed by world reknowned naval architect William Crealock.
She is 36' long, has a 10' 4" beam (width) and at the present time with all the gear we have on board draws 6' (depth from the waterline to the lowest part of the keel). We bought her in Kemah, Texas in April 2000. Spindrift has a forward cabin called a "V" berth with a double bed. Amidships she has a navigation station which we have converted into a pantry as our need of such was greater, (we can view our charts elsewhere) and a double sized head (bathroom) with a toilet and separate shower. Further aft is the galley (kitchen) on the starboard side (right), and the main salon on the port side (left) which has a large table that breaks down into a double bed at night very much like an RV. Two quarter berths (separate individual bunks) are on either side of the engine compartment.
She is powered by a 4 cylinder Westerbeke 15 hp.diesel engine and burns about a gallon of fuel per hour. Cruising speed is 5 knots. Spindrift is often steered by our auto pilot, an Aires wind steering system. We have a 240 gallon per day Village Marine water maker (Little Wonder model) which converts saltwater into freshwater by reverse osmosis. A Siemens 100 watt solar panel and Air Marine wind generator (with extra spare kept down below) keep our 4 deep cycle marine batteries charged. We also have a gasoline powered generator for emergency use at sea as well as to run our air conditioner while at anchor. Cooking is done mostly with an alchohol stove at sea, and an electric skillet and microwave while near land.

"The ideal cruise requires a good yacht, pleasant company, and a strange coast with plenty of islands and rocks." - Humphrey Barton
